Currently I'm not in the market for new hardware, but it is always nice to keep up-to-date with options. My most recent machine is a Macbook Pro 2020, the last generation that came with Intel CPU. So it should be good for some time to come.

One of the options is switching to a M2 based Macbook, but right now I'm not ready to give up on x86 virtualisation just yet. I could do without, running x86 remotely if I have to, but for now I'm holding this option off.

Next to the Apple option, I'm always on the look-out for 'proper' linux options. The Dell XPS is/was a fine machine to run desktop linux. The Clevo laptop I had some time ago performed well, but the build quality was disappointing. I've considered the framework laptop and other US based options. But I'm picky, very picky :-)

In the ideal world I would find a laptop that is 100% compatible with a solid linux desktop like Zorin Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Ideally it would be powered by an AMD chip, be high performance, have a more or less symmetric keyboard lay-out and 15-16 inch screen. That limits the options quite a bit!

But I have seemed to have found it. And it is European. Bonus points.

So, if I were to buy a Linux laptop today, I would seriously consider the Spanish option: The Slimbook PROX 15. I would love to find someone nearby who actually owns one, I don't think there is a local reseller here.
