OpenBSD laptop running XFCE and Syncthing now
So there were some surprises in getting it to work, but with some digging in manuals and community support, my laptop is now running a desktop environment on top of OpenBSD 7.6.
During setup I ran into issues with errors concerning the number of open files. The annoying thing, is when you hit that limit, the most basic stuff starts to fail. So good luck running the ifconfig command or trying to remotely log on using openssh
But by booting the system in single user mode I was able to up the maximum number of files in both /etc/sysctl.conf and /etc/login.conf to 32 thousand. That should keep everyone happy.
So now there is time and ability to customize things and start basic productivity tasks, such as writing blogposts
