One month of Macbook Pro 13″ : there is a lot to love

Really, the 13″ Macbook Pro is without doubt the best portable computer I’ve ever used. The hardware is pretty, shiny, hip, sturdy, recycable, durable, light and just works. The screen is fantastic as with every Mac I’ve owned. And there is ofcourse Mac OS X, which for 99% just works. The way suspend/sleeps works with OS X and Apple hardware makes me never turn off the thing, I just close the lid. Later I open the lid and within 1-2 seconds I can continue where I left off. Battery life is excellent and my most beloved software is available for OS X.

And then there is virtualisation using Virtualbox. I can resume an image of Windows XP or Ubuntu when the need arises. No need to choose an operating system, this machine has it all. Excellent full screen support and such without hassle.

O yes there is still room for improvement. Time Machine and Filefault should be adapted to better serve me. Now logging out is the only way to backup my encrypted files, which is a hassle and takes too long, even with Wireless N. And iPhoto could be a lot faster, but maybe having 10000+ pictures is not too common yet.

As an IT pro I love the ideas of open standards and open source and Apple really needs to work on that. But as a consumer Apple really tries to understand what I need and delivers. The iPhone, the iPod and the Macs really put the end user first. Loving it.

Please note that I have no commercial interest in Apple or any of their partners. Maybe I should change that haha ;)
