Linux on the desktop remains usable but with surprises

So lets get this straight, were the only option for me to use Linux, I could totally make it work proper enough. But comparing my general experience to my experience with Macos, it remains a more involved way to get work done.

So last week I had everything properly setup and working except for displaylink drivers. During this week I used the Debian desktop as my daily driver. But it keeps giving me small and annoying surprises. Like Libreroffice getting stuck in a simple document that has no issues in Libreoffice on the mac. Or the bluetooth controller that seems to disappear only to re-appear after a reboot ... and then to lose the WIFI adapter an hour later.

For my hobby machine that I use during the weekend: not a real issue. But for the platform that I use to deliver value to my customers: annoying as hell. Then there was the sudden influx of disk corruption when I was running kernel 6.0.0 from Debian backports. Hardware checks I did later did not reveal any hardware issues.

So yeah. The hardware is probably great, build quality being excellent and such. Just for my information I might install wWindows 10 on a separate partition to see how well it runs.

As for linux: I'm still very much confused what would be the best distribution to just get an actual well running system that does not require my attention on near daily basis.

I really wished it would work out better. The only benefit I see to this, is that I'm now more prepared again to shelve the large amount of money to get Apple laptops.

For the laptop it is distro hopping time again. Maybe I will try the Slimbook maintained custom distribution. Haven't looked in to it yet.
